# Self-ballasting

A floating cover design that maintains stability and resists wind drift without external anchors, using element geometry or partial water fill alone.

**Self-ballasting** means the floating cover stays in place without external anchors or
cables — useful for sites with dynamic water levels and irregular shorelines, where
anchor design adds cost and complexity.

In EuroCover's catalog this matters because both hexagonal modular products
([Hexprotect® AQUA](/products/hexprotect-aqua) and
[Hexofloat®](/products/hexofloat)) and the spherical
[Armor Ball AQUA](/products/armor-ball-aqua) deploy anchorlessly — the EU install crews
do not need to specify, supply, or service a perimeter anchor system.

For the engineering reference — the original 2010 self-ballasting Hexprotect® patent,
the lateral-motion wind-dissipation principle, the evolution to the pre-ballasted AQUA —
