H₂S (hydrogen sulfide) is released at the water-air interface from anaerobic wastewater, sulfide-bearing digesters, oilfield produced water, and other reducing aquatic environments. It is a major source of community odor complaints, a serious worker safety risk (toxic at low ppm), and a corrosion driver for adjacent infrastructure. Floating covers reduce H₂S release by 85–95% by limiting mass transfer at the water-air interface and supporting regulatory compliance under the EU Industrial Emissions Directive.
